With its secluded and peaceful surroundings, Desaru is an excellent choice for couples looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and spend some quality time together.
Best time to visit Desaru
The best time to visit Desaru is during the dry season, which falls between March and October. During these months, the weather is warm and sunny, making it perfect for outdoor activities and beach vacations. The peak season for tourism is from June to August, so youcan expect larger crowds and higher prices during this time. However, if you prefer a quieter and more peaceful holiday, consider visiting in the shoulder season, such as March to May or September to October. It’s worth noting that Desaru can experience occasional rainfall throughout the year, so be sure to pack appropriate clothing and check the weather forecast before your trip.

Recommended Places to Stay in Desaru – Honeymoon Malaysia
Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas
Indulge in a seaside romance at Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas – a place where luxury and comfort meet on the dazzling Desaru Coast. This luxury resort warrants the most romantic getaway on Malaysia’s golden shores, especially when you stay at the luxurious Deluxe Sea View Room, which offers spectacular views over lush resort greenery extending to the South China Sea. But if you are looking to splurge for such an important occasion, Anantara’s One-Bedroom Lagoon Pool Villa is also worth the shot.
We actually got to stay at the resort just recently, and the experience was amazing. The bed was so comfortable, kind of similar to the one we had at Anantara Layan Phuket Resort, and you can even request additional pillows with varying firmness to match your sleeping preferences. Do not worry about being too comfortable at night though, as honeymooners in the resort will get to wake up to a romantic breakfast in bed – the perfect way to start an eventful day.
Plenty of romantic experiences to discover
As soon as you are energised for the morning, explore Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas and try out all the activities laid out for every guest. Take a dip in the beachfront and lagoon infinity pools, sip some original handcrafted cocktails or mocktails by the beach bar, or perhaps hideaway at the serene Anantara Spa with an indulgent’s couple journey.
If you and your partner are more on the active side, there are also yoga, cycling, golf, beach volleyball, and other water activities for you to experience. At night, take in a blockbuster movie under the stars (available on selected days) after a sumptuous, romantic candlelit dinner by the beach or a regular dinner at one of the resort’s dining destinations.
Taste local and international culinary indulgences
Whether you are looking for Asian or Western specialties, Anantara has two restaurants to answer to your heart’s demand. First up is Turmeric Restaurant, which offered gourmet international and Asian flavours at any time of the day. We highly recommend the Kerabu Mangga Muda as starters (probably the best mango salad I have ever eaten!) and Goong Sarong if you love crispy, deep-fried prawns with a little bit of spice. Really delicious!
For the main course, the Ikan Bakar is definitely a must-try, which was a super soft fish roasted so perfectly that it melts right into your mouth (just make sure it is not the snapper fish as it was a bit tougher, but still great tastewise), as well as the Massaman Kea for curry lovers like myself. The Char Kway Teow was also pretty awesome; it tasted so great that we had it for 3 days straight – a testament to its lovely taste and quality.
To complete the signature Anantara dining experience, head over to Sea.Fire.Salt and indulge in succulent grilled seafood and steaks on the beachfront. The prices here are a bit more of a splurge compared to Turmeric, but their dishes are worth every money spent – I’d highly recommend it in a heartbeat! We ordered a Chilled Seafood Tower consisting of premium oysters, lobsters, prawns, crabs, etc. – all freshly caught from Desaru Coast. The seafood here was barbecued really well that I even sucked on some of their shells afterwards (and I never did that before). The 1.2kg Australian Beef Tomahawk, served with 6 sides and sauces, was also very palatable and great for family sharing.
A juicy Australian Beef Tomahawk with perfect fat to meat ratio
And of course, there is no better way to cap off the night than by having such amazing desserts (try their Mont Blanc and Hot Chocolate Fondant) or sipping some extraordinary cocktails from one of Anantara’s luxe bars. The resort has two, so if you want to drink cocktails with the sound of the waves crashing nearby – the Infinity Bar is the perfect spot for you. The Golden Lands (their own version of gin and tonic), Sea of Pineapples (really IG-worthy cocktail!), and Cartel, definitely one of the best ones I have ever tasted, were our top favourites, though most of their signature cocktails taste pretty amazing. The second one – Observatory Bar – is located right at the heart of the resort, where you can enjoy lovely 360-degree views of the entire Anantara, so the best time to go there is really at sundown.
In all honesty, we will definitely consider Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas if we were to go on a honeymoon Malaysia trip again. Staying in one of their stylish villas is just the perfect way to celebrate marriage, not to mention all the romantic activities you can do here!
